Getting Around Town

All of the wedding hotels are located in the heart of Lionshead Village, within steps of many restaurants, shops, and activities. From Lionshead, Vail Village is also easily accessible within a 15 minute walk or a quick bus ride. The in-town bus is a great way to get between the two villages (and is the recommended mode of transportation to get to the welcome drinks at Larkspur on Friday night). The bus is free and picks up about every 10 minutes from stops close to the hotels - just ask the front desk to point you in the right direction.

Activities

Vail's Oktoberfest will be taking place in Lionshead Village (where all of the wedding hotels are located) throughout the weekend. Stop by for a stein of beer, a bratwurst, or to show off your lederhosen on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday from noon - 10pm.

We hope you have time to enjoy some of the many outdoor activities Vail has to offer during your time in the mountains. Hiking, biking, rafting, golf, horseback riding and fishing are all available nearby. For some more relaxed mountain views, take a scenic gondola ride up the mountain from Lionshead. At the top of the gondola you can enjoy some food and beverages, or take part in the many activities at Adventure Ridge such as a zip line, ropes course,  and alpine slide.

VAIL...

Vail’s slogan is “VAIL Like Nothing on Earth”, and believe me, we think that’s true.  We want you to enjoy every second of your stay!  Here are some recommendations when preparing for your trip.

High Altitude

Vail is breathtaking in the summer.  No, we mean it, it could literally take your breath away! The village is located 8,000 feet above sea level.  Altitude sickness can hit anyone, regardless of physical condition or age.  The most common symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, and unrestful sleep

The key to surviving high altitude is staying hydrated.  So while there will be plenty of imbibing over the weekend, make sure some of what you’re imbibing is water.  Also, please note that alcohol is more potent at high altitudes so be sure to drink a lot of water at all times. If possible, consider arriving early to give yourself time to adjust.  Altitude sickness usually passes after 24 hours.

Exposure to the sun is also 40% greater than it is at sea level.  Sunscreen is recommended for all exposed skin.  Be certain to protect your eyes with sunglasses.

 Weather

Colorado has more than 300 days of sunshine each year, so we are hopeful for a beautiful and sunny wedding weekend, but the weather is often unpredictable and can quickly change in the mountains.

The temperature during the day may reach up to 70 degrees, but nights in the mountains can get quite chilly (from 35-40 degrees). Afternoon thunderstorms are also quite common. Be sure to dress in layers and bring attire for rain and cold just in case.
